An eighty-year old patient was suffering from a chronic back pain, she had undergone several previous surgeries, but she obtained only partial relief, her overall health didn’t make her a good candidate for undergoing a major surgery or to be exposed to a general anesthesia, hence the patient was submitted to a unique procedure performed by dr. Abdullah Al-Akayleh, a consultant neurosurgeon, and his assistant, Dr. Majdi Ramadan, it involved utilizing (Facet Joint Medial Branch Radio Frequency Ablation) to treat the pain resulting from vertebral degeneration and chronic lower back pain, with physiological monitoring of nerve and muscle functions during the surgery (IONM) to enhance precision and avoid complications.

The procedure was carried out under local anesthesia without the need for general anesthesia, under the supervision of Dr. Abbas Al-Taweel, the anesthesia and resuscitation consultant. The patient was discharged on the same day without complications and in a good health, with significant improvement in back pain.
